Eritrea’s 135-Year Trajectory

Dear Eritrean Readers,  For your kind information, I have just published a book that contains essential reading material covering the past 135 years of our history as Eritreans. The 282 pages of the compilation chronicle rare staff that can interest many kinds of readers, but especially:-

  • Those who heard or took active part in the events covered in the book;

  • Our children and, hopefully, also our grand-children; plus…

  • Researchers of our tumultuous past.

Following a sweeping coverage of grand developments from 1890 up to the establishment of the first “Eritrean Government” in 1952, the 20 chapters that are referred to as “Readings” deal with significant events of our past with their implications in the making of today’s ‘State of Eritrea’ -- our unlucky country that has not yet completed the shape of a state its heroic people dreamt of.

In this modest book, you will be able to read, inter alia, about:

  • The good judgment of Eritrea’s towering national figures the like of Ras Tessema Asberom, Ibrahim Sultan, Woldeab, Nawd, Awate and the rest;

  • Eritrea’s new phase of youth-led nationalism as of the late 1950s in which Yours Truly was also a part;

  • Over 50-year old interviews you never could reach: A wonderful narration of the first 10 years of the armed struggle by Martyr Ibrahim Bahdurai, and full description of prison-life in the Eritrea of 1965-1975 by Martyr Woldedawit Temesghen whom I interviewed in March 1980;

  • My writings on contentious issues like religion; ethnicity; the still ongoing Arabic-Tigrigna wrangle; vulgarities in Nehnan Elamanan … and what have you, including my characterization of this same Isaias in 1982 for having possessed the EPLF as his “private company,” and my satirical “Draft Speech” for him at the 8th anniversary of our independence. PLUS profile of nine patriots, Eritreans in Faraway Australia…. You will not regret spending time over it.
